IF

0

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubting you.
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
On being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
On being hated, don’t give way to hating,
Are yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream and not make dream your master
If you can think and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build’em up with worn out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch and toss
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
It you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve the turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you,
Except the Will which says to them;”Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
On walk with Kings – nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it
And – which is more- you’ll be a Man, my son!

Another Google in India

0

Google has found another Google existing before the new Google comes in the cyber world.

Yes, its true, there is another google in Karnataka but this is not any Search Engine, but a small village about 510 km north east of Bangalore. The Village is very small and doest not have internet connection there

The village of 1000 residents on the banks of the Krishna in Karnataka’s Raichur district is far removed from the search engine company base in Mountain View, California. How you spell the name is left to you as there are no English Boards anywhere. All the boards including those of the government offices are in Kannada and on all of them the name sounds exactly the way Google is pronounced. When the government tries to put up Englsih Boards, activists stopped them. “We asked officials what the purpose of putting up English Boards. Would anyone from the Cambridge University come here to read the board?”

Most inhabitants have not heard of their famous namesake in cyber space. The few who have are proud of their village’s claim of fame.

There is a story on how the village got its name. This is a mythological story known from the legend that 12th century saint poet Allama Prabhu lived in this village when he was traveling from Basave Kalyan to Sreesailam in Andhra Pradesh. The cave where he is believed lived has been described s Gavi Gallu(Cave of Stone)The village hence Gavi Gallu.Over the years it became googallu and now its Google…

Kolkata Police in Blog world

0

The Kolkata police have also updated themselves. They have also planned to enter into the cyber world to stretch their helping hands in order to help kolkatans in many ways.

The city police is going to launching its own blog. Yes.. it is true that they have launched their first e-helpline to provide their service.

According to Gautam Mohan Chakrabarti, the city Police Commissioner “"It is a people-friendly way of reaching out. We wish to tell people about the social work or community work police are involved in, because they can also avail the opportunities. We want to hold frank and open discussions on policing. This can be a healthy way of improving policing and public interface."

Kolkata Police already has a website, but its role is more informative. The blog on the other hand, would be interactive. It will be an open platform for everyone. People can discuss, lodge complaints, take up issues for the betterment of the city, give suggestions and, starting this Puja, wish each other Subho Bijoya. You might want to tell police about your para cyber cafe that is flouting all the rules, perhaps a neighbourhood that needs better night policing.

Celebrities would also join in and not necessarily the quintessential Bengali or the conservative Kolkatan. The best names in art, theatre and literature may join up on Kolkata Police's blog. You may learn more about this from http://www.kolkatapolice.gov.in

Want of hangman Capital Punishment languishing

0

A bizarre news surprised me when I came across a headline that said that a capital punishment is fading in want of hangman.. I went through and learnt that the person Piara Singh was arrested in a murder case in 1991. His three sons Sarabjit, Gurdev and Satnam, were also subsequently charged with. He was awarded with capital punishment in 1996. Since then on he has been living in a 12x6 room and waiting for the hangman or the saviour to let him escape from that filthy world..

The octogenarian Pira Singh now neither can see nor even move properly. Piara Singh a resident of Baserke village in Amritsar, were found guilty of firing at a gathering to celebrate a marriage in November, 1991. His three sons were also charged with this case. As reported there had been an old enmity that compelled him to commit this. The violence caused death of 17 people. Thought Piara Singh prayed in his defence that the incident was a spillover of an earlier altercation between him and his neighbouring family that injured his nephew and killed his servant.

According to Navkiran Singh, the lawyer and a human rights activist ‘‘I was moved by his plight when I accidentally stumbled upon him when I visited the Amritsar jail in 2006 to collect data on death row inmates, I decided I would fight for him. But now Piara just prays for death. It is horrifying.’’

He had also prayed for mercy. The petition has been pending since 1997 in Rashtrapati Bhavan. Piara suffering in Dementia has developed osteoarthritis in both knee joints and acid peptic disease. As a result of prolonged incarceration Piara has symptoms of mild psychotic disorder which at times results in him hallucinating

While his initial mercy petition is gathering dust in Delhi, closer home a PIL was filed in Punjab and Haryana high court in August 2006, pleading, among other things, that it is inhuman to keep convicts like Piara in solitary confinement and that they should be kept with other convicts. It also pleaded that Piara’s death sentence be commuted to life imprisonment.

Bhuvan, the Indian mapping application launched

0

After Google and Wikimapia, now its India to launch its own mapping application. Bhuvan, the Indian mapping application has been launched.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has launched this application promising to provide satellite images of varying resolution of India's surface. The 3D mapping tool uses images taken a year ago by ISRO's seven remote sensing satellites, including Cartosat-1 and Cartosat-2. The satellites can even capture the images of objects as small as a car on a road.The application is a result of 4 years effort of Hyderabad based National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA).

NRSA is a part of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) and has been working on this project with the data provided by Indian Educational satellite Resourcesat-I

According to NRSA, Bhuvan will focus on rural and thematic applications like wasteland mapping and terrain profile along with weather details like humidity levels.NRSA has also cleared its point declaring that only the data approved by the Govt of India will be seen using Bhuvan. The viewers can zoom any picture up to 10 metres compared to Google Earth’s 200 metres and Wikimapi’s 50 metres.

The features include: Access, explore and visualize 2D and 3D image data along with rich thematic information on Soil, wasteland, water resources, superpose administrative boundaries of choice on images as required, visualization of AWS ( Automatic Weather Stations) data/information in a graphic view and use tabular weather data of user choice, Heads-Up Display ( HUD) naviation controls ( Tilt slider, north indicator, opacity, compass ring, zoom slider), navigation using the 3D view pop-up menu (Fly-in, Fly out, jump in, jump around, view point), drawing 2D objects (Text labels, polylines, polygons, rectangles, 2D arrows, circles, ellipse), drawing 3D Objects (placing of expressive 3D models, 3D polygons, boxes), snapshot creation (copies the 3D view to a floating window and allows to save to a external file)

The website can be accessed on http://www.bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in. But to get all the features a visitor needs to install the plugin by registering himself there.

Unique Identity for all Indians

0

If everything goes well we will have the power we have been craving for. The power of identity, the power of being known and the power of nationality. The Unique Identity Card that will empower us to travel around the globe freely.

The unique ID number will not substitute other existing numbers a person may have (PAN, passport number, ration card number). Rather, it will be an additional, unique number to be cited along with existing numbers for different purposes.

The man who has conceived the idea is none but the co-founder and former CEO of Infosys Technologies Nandan Nilekeni. He has decided to help the Govt. by shorting out the fake identities and creating a universal database covering all the necessary information needed to identify a person.

Nilekani and his team will make available a unique ID database to all ministries and other partners, who can then integrate their databases (covering passports, ration cards, job cards, PAN cards) with the unique ID database

12000 cards would be issued within 2010 and the rest will be available within 5 years. The effort has already been admired by all the classes of society. Nandan’s contribution towards the greater good of the nation will not only help the Govt. but also empower its citizens.

Dr Abdul Kalam entering Cinema

0

Dr Abdul Kalam is busy with a new kind of work for the last few days. Guess .. what kind of job he might indulge himself in ?? Writing? Reciting? Meditation?? No… he is going to be seen in film. Amazing!! Yes... It’s really an amazing news that our ex President Dr Abdul Kalam is going to show his acting skill in film. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam is making the great crossover and entering cinema with a film called Mein Kalam Hoon.

Dr Kalam, an aeronautical engineer and scientist whose work on ballistic missiles and space rocket technology earned him the name ‘Missile Man of India’, has done thisHindi film with children that’s been directed by Madhav Pandeya and produced by the SMILE Foundation. The former Prez, who has always been fond of children, agreed to do the film because it gave him the opportunity to work with kids.

Its storyline is quite similar to Dr Kalam’s belief, “Everyone is free to dream, so dream big.” Bollywood baddie Gulshan Grover, who has more irons in Hollywood’s roaring fires than anybody in Bollywood, also acts in Mein Kalam Hoon with a French actress called Sophie Brosstel. And, Gulshan said, “Abdul Kalam plays himself. The story, set in Rajasthan, is about a boy who is inspired by the former President and dares to dream big.”

Browse for ebook fair

1

Does not it seem a good idea browsing hours for favorite books? You may be sitting with a laptop in your apartment, surfing the net in a London library, or just browsing in a Cape Town cybercafe. Yes.. you have full access to all the books there and choose from them the right one for download. – A virtual book fair offers you to visit their collections and download as many ebooks you want. You don’t need any permission. Anyone anywhere can attend this book fair. Of course, you can't run your finger over their spines or quickly scan the synopses on their back covers - these books have neither.

But a few mouse clicks is all you need to access them. For a month starting Saturday, over 2.5 million books will be available for free download at a virtual book fair - the fourth eBook Fair sponsored by a number of e-libraries including Project Gutenberg, The World Public Library and Internet Archive. The links to the collections will be worldebookfair.com.

According to Roberto Gorrieri of the World Public Library, the first three 'fairs' averaged one million downloads per day and a sizable section of the traffic was from India. ''My guess would be about 1/4 of all downloads were done from there. The most popular titles were technology related titles,'' he told TOI in an email interview. No surprise as technical books, especially the imported ones, cost a bomb.

But it is not just the techies or casual readers who download. Even humanities students have become intimately familiar with the world of e-texts. Recently, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed a plan to do away with text books altogether and push for the use of ebooks in schools. For graduate students in India, there are more texts - some of them notoriously difficult to find in stores - and less time to procure them.

Sappho's poetry, prescribed in MA English course is one example; Kesari Mohan Ganguly's translation of Karnaparva, is another. Alberti's On Painting was found and circulated online. ''Etexts are much easier to access and are far cleaner than photocopies,'' says Sakshi Chopra who completed her MA in 2008. Later, for BEd, she used etexts of John Dewey's Democracy and Education and Paulo Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Nandita Dubey, a final year history student, used etexts for her dissertation on Shahjahanabad.

Feluda’s Virtual office

0

Do you believe that a detective has a virtual office with all his feats with attractive adventurous news? Yes, our Feluda has such a virtual office cum museum. If sherlock ‘Homes can have a museum to himself, why not our very own Feluda?? That’s the thought that struck UK based neurologist Soumit Dasgupta. He has planned to create a virtual museum for Feluda. His plan has now taken a shape of a mission with global community of Feluda fans joining hands to realize the dream project.

As the idea continued to dwell in Dasgupta’s mind, he used the Feluda fan club on a social networking site as a sounding board. The response was overwhelming with people from all over the globe keen on the initiative. The response encouraged him and made him realized that Feluda indeed is the most popular of all detectives in Bengali literature.

Sujoy Bbhoumik from Cambridge and US citizen Subha Ganguly were among those who expressed keenness to join the initiative. To start with, they have decided to set up a website to display ‘memorabilia’ from Feluda exploits. Soumendu Das Munshi, a Kolkata-based techie has been appointed to create a full-fledged portal on Feluda

The virtual collection on the current website (********** ) includes an expensive collection of Feluda – From Sonar Kella to Samaddarer Chabi, from Royal Bengal Rahosshya to Jata kando Kathmandute..All the adventurous events are there to quench the readers thirst.

Mean while the team is creating a charitable trust, Feluda Incorporation, for donations to fund the museum. Sandip Roy, the great son of the great detective creator has stretched his helping hands to give it a perfect shape. Within a few days readers will find a BIG office of their dear private detective Prodosh Chandra Mitter.

World’s Teen Graduate

0

He is short, two years away from his teens. But he is walking 10 feet tall. Becoming the youngest graduate at 11 years and 2 month, Tathagata Avtar Tulsi has rewritten the Guinness Book of Records. Scoring 70 percent, he graduated with honors in Physics from Patna University.

Tathagata’s father, Tulsi Narayan Prasad claims his son has smashed the record of Jay Luo of Garden City, USA, who graduated in science from Boise University, Idaho, when he was 12 years 1 month and 12 days old.

Tathagata took the part I, II & III examination is the same year, But making him sit for the examination was a battle hard fight and last he won. Patna University was in quandary, but the Patna High Court stepped in allowing him to take all three examinations.

University authorities however are guarded about letting him enroll for the M.Sc course.
“We planned his admission but the university does not seem to agree” Tulsi Prasad Said.

Records are not new for Tathagata. When he passed the CBSE at age nine and half he was said to have broken the record of Alexander Hill of England, who passed his school-leaving examination when he was 10 years and 2 months old.

Tathagata is n Delhi; “I am very happy and proud to be the youngest graduate” was all he said.” He is not kind of boy to jump about excitement” Tulsi Prasad said.

The boy from modest home in Bhojpur district of Central Bihar claims to have authored a paper titled “Electrogravity unification and energy loss phenomenon”. His father said offers were on to find a British publisher for the paper.
